Taihan acquires cable laying vessel Skandi Connector from DOF Group
Type: Acquisition · Technology: Transmission · Country: Korea · Announced: 2026-05-14
Taihan has signed a sales and purchase agreement with Norway-based DOF Group to acquire the cable laying vessel Skandi Connector. The Korean company plans to use the 10,000-tonne CLV to establish a two-track submarine cable installation system alongside its existing vessel PALOS. The Damen-built Skandi Connector, which has been deployed on 27 projects and laid 1,300km of cables, is due to arrive in Korea in August. Taihan stated that the vessel's flat-bottom hull makes it particularly suitable for operations off Korea’s west coast, where tidal currents are strong and water depths are shallow. This acquisition will enable Taihan to simultaneously execute offshore wind projects and long-distance grid interconnection projects, strengthening its competitiveness in the global market.
