Tata Power awarded 324 MW pumped hydro storage contract by SECI

Tata Power secured a Letter of Award from the Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) to supply 324 MW (2,592 MWh) of pumped hydro energy storage. The storage will be delivered from Tata Power’s 1 GW Bhivpuri pumped storage project located in Raigad district, Maharashtra. The award requires Tata Power to commence supply within 36 months and to provide eight hours of storage, connecting to the 765/400 kV South Kalamb CTU Substation. The contract is part of SECI’s tariff‑based global competitive bidding for 1.5 GW/12 GWh of pumped hydro capacity across India, expanding the country’s flexible grid resources. The 40‑year service term will be under a fixed annual capacity charge and cycle‑loss framework, supporting peak‑demand dispatch. No financial value was disclosed, and the deal was announced on 20 July 2026.
