Terrestrial Energy Inc. and Riot Platforms Inc. announced a collaboration to jointly develop nuclear-powered large-scale data center projects, leveraging Terrestrial Energy’s Generation IV Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) technology and Riot’s expertise in hyperscale data center design and operations. The partnership will evaluate multiple candidate sites, including existing Riot facilities in Texas and Kentucky, while exploring additional locations to optimize configurations for both nuclear plants and data centers. Terrestrial Energy’s IMSR Plants will be customized to integrate with Riot’s data center operations, combining the company’s nuclear-plant design and licensing expertise with Riot’s end-to-end data center development capabilities. The IMSR Plant’s design isolates non-nuclear energy conversion systems from regulated nuclear systems, enabling hybrid-energy configurations that can incorporate natural gas or other fuels to enhance resilience and meet site-specific needs during project buildout. The collaboration aims to deliver best-in-class data center facilities powered by advanced nuclear energy, targeting hyperscale tenants with optimized operational and energy supply models.
