Townsite Solar 2 secures Right-of-Way Grant amendment to develop data center on federal land in Nevada
Type: Development · Technology: Data Center · Country: United States · Capacity: 170 MW · Announced: 2026-07-08
Townsite Solar 2, LLC (TS2), a subsidiary of Skylar Capital, secured an amendment to its existing Right-of-Way Grant from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to allow for the development of a 170MW data center campus on 80 acres of federally owned land adjacent to Boulder, Nevada. The project, previously planned for city-owned land west of US Highway 95 and south of I-11, was withdrawn from Boulder City’s land management process after the planning commission recommended against adding data centers to the approved uses. TS2 had held an option to lease 88.5 acres of city-owned land for solar and battery storage, but this required a new lease agreement for data center use. The BLM’s approval allows TS2 to proceed with the data center on federal land, though specific project details remain undisclosed. Boulder City is considering filing a notice of appeal against the BLM’s decision, citing concerns raised by residents, including a Change.org petition with over 6,600 signatures opposing the project. Construction was initially slated to begin in 2026, with the first phase operational by 2027, but the shift to federal land may alter the timeline.
