TVEL supplies nuclear fuel for Kudankulam unit 4 initial loading under long-term contract with NPCIL
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Nuclear · Country: India · Announced: 2026-06-09
TVEL Fuel Company, a division of Rosatom, manufactured nuclear fuel for the initial loading of India's Kudankulam unit 4 under a 2024 contract with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). The fuel was produced at Rosatom's Elektrostal Machine-Building Plant and accepted by NPCIL for deployment at the Kudankulam site in Tamil Nadu. This supply agreement extends TVEL's existing long-term fuel supply contract for Kudankulam units 3 and 4, which are VVER-1000 pressurized water reactors under construction since 2017. Rosatom's Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant previously supplied the first nuclear fuel for unit 3 in December 2025, demonstrating the company's role as the sole fuel supplier for the plant's operational and under-construction units. The contract aligns with India's broader nuclear expansion plans, targeting 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047 through large reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs).
