UGL awarded EPC contract for Sybella solar and battery project

Engineering group UGL has been awarded the engineering design, procurement, construction and commissioning role for the upcoming Sybella solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Mount Isa, Queensland. The project is developed by APA Group, which will invest approximately $259 million into the facility, underpinned by a long-term Energy Supply Agreement with Evolution Mining until mid-2046. Construction of Sybella by UGL is anticipated to commence in late 2026, with completion expected in mid-2028. This marks UGL's 16th solar farm and 12th BESS project, continuing a strong relationship established through the successful delivery of APA's Dugald River Solar Farm and the Port Hedland Battery Energy Storage System.
