UK guarantees GBP210 million loan for enriched uranium supply to Ukraine's Energoatom

Type: Financing · Technology: Nuclear · Country: United Kingdom, Ukraine · Value: $282M · Announced: 2026-06-17

The UK government agreed to guarantee a GBP210 million (USD282 million) loan to finance enriched uranium supplies to Ukraine's state nuclear power producer, Energoatom, over the next two years. The financing, backed by UK Export Finance, follows a previous two-year deal and ensures continued nuclear fuel supply amid ongoing conflict. Over a third of the uranium content will originate from Urenco's processing plant in the North-West of England, supporting more than 4,500 jobs in the UK supply chain. Urenco, a UK-Dutch-German company, has supplied enriched uranium to Energoatom since 2009, with Westinghouse Electric Sweden serving as the sole supplier for fuel assemblies. The agreement was finalized during a meeting between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in London.
