Ulstein Verft delivers Nexans Electra cable-laying vessel to Nexans for offshore renewable and interconnector projects

Norwegian shipbuilder Ulstein Verft delivered the Nexans Electra, a DP3 cable-laying vessel (CLV), to Nexans on May 18, 2026, strengthening its capacity to install advanced subsea power and communication cable systems. The vessel features an additional under-deck turntable with a 3,500-tonne cable capacity, a split turntable on deck holding up to 10,000 tonnes of cable, and a fiber-optic tank with a capacity of 450 tonnes. Designed for demanding offshore operations, Nexans Electra is purpose-built for the transport, laying, protection, repair, and jointing of subsea power cables, enabling efficient operations in harsh weather conditions. The vessel is a sister to the CLV Nexans Aurora, delivered in 2021, and will support offshore renewable and interconnector projects worldwide. Nexans' CEO Lars Eriksen highlighted the vessel's role in confirming Ulstein Verft's execution capabilities, while Pascal Radue, EVP of Nexans Power Transmission Business Group, emphasized its importance in delivering complex subsea projects safely and sustainably as the energy transition accelerates.
