UNIFI Communications, the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority and the Syrian Telecommunications Establishment signed a partnership to build the Ugarit 2 subsea cable. The cable will consist of 24 fiber pairs delivering 31 Tbps at launch and a design ceiling of 370 Tbps. The route will follow the original 239‑km path between Pentaskhinos in Cyprus and Tartus in Syria, with activation slated for early 2028. The project restores high‑capacity connectivity for Syria’s twenty‑million‑strong population after years of isolation. The agreement was announced on 14 August 2026 under a U.S. Treasury license and will be built on Clean Network principles. No financial terms were disclosed.
