University of the Balearic Islands and Balearic Government co‑finance 6.68 MWp solar‑plus‑storage project

The University of the Balearic Islands and the Balearic Islands Government’s Department of Enterprise, Self‑Employed and Energy signed a financing agreement for a 6.68 MWp photovoltaic macro‑project with 10.27 MWh of battery storage, valued at €16.28 million. The project, part of the PITEIB, will install solar panels on the roofs of three campus buildings—Antoni Maria Alcover i Sureda, Margalida Comas i Camps and CampusEsport—totaling 473.62 kWp already completed in 2026. The broader macro‑project will expand the campus’s self‑consumption capacity to cover 22.96 % of its total electricity demand, aiming for 100 % self‑sufficiency. Funding is co‑provided by the University, the regional government department and the European Union through the Next Generation EU recovery fund, underscoring the commitment to the islands’ energy transition. The €16.28 million budget is split into two lots under a single contract, with the EU’s Next Generation EU programme supplying a portion of the financing.
