VARD delivers hybrid construction and cable laying vessel to Toyo Construction

Norwegian ship designer and shipbuilder VARD delivered a 151-meter-long hybrid construction and cable laying vessel (CLV) named Discovery to Japanese Toyo Construction on June 26, 2026. The vessel, destined for Japan's offshore wind market, was outfitted and commissioned at Vard Langsten in Norway, with its hull built at Vard Shipyards Romania – Tulcea. The tailor-made vessel has a cable carrying capacity of 9,000 tonnes and is suitable for multi-purpose applications including ground-based foundation work, floating offshore wind mooring work, and marine resource-related projects. VARD held the keel laying ceremony for the vessel in September 2024, and it is equipped with a large battery pack, shore supply connection, and an energy management system.
