Vattenfall has taken a final investment decision on a 254 MW / 1,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage project in Brunsbüttel, Germany. The battery will be built at the site of the former Brunsbüttel nuclear power plant, which is currently being decommissioned, and will connect to the 380 kV transmission system operated by 50Hertz. Vattenfall expects the project to enter operation by the end of 2028. This project will become Vattenfall's largest battery storage installation to date and is expected to almost double the company's total battery capacity. The project is part of Vattenfall's broader expansion in battery optimisation, targeting a managed portfolio of up to 1.5 GW by 2029.
