Vivici secures €12.5 million EIC Accelerator funding to scale precision-fermented dairy proteins production

Type: Financing · Technology: Agriculture · Country: Netherlands · Value: $14.4M · Announced: 2026-06-17

Dutch precision fermentation startup Vivici secured €12.5 million ($14.4 million) in blended financing from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator Program to scale production of dairy proteins via precision fermentation. The funding combines grant and equity components, enabling Vivici to expand industrial-scale biomanufacturing capacity for dairy proteins such as beta-lactoglobulin and lactoferrin. Formed in December 2022 as a joint venture between Fonterra and DSM-Firmenich, Vivici leveraged its founders' expertise to rapidly advance its technology platform, including integrating novel strain optimization tech from Danish startup Enduro Genetics to boost protein titers and yields by 30%. The company achieved FDA GRAS status for beta-lactoglobulin in February 2025 and self-GRAS status for lactoferrin in February 2026, clearing regulatory hurdles for commercialization. Vivici operates with European co-manufacturing partners for industrial-scale production and has established a US manufacturing partnership with Liberation Bioindustries to produce proteins in Indiana, while also exploring a potential industrial-scale facility in the UAE through a collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office.
