VNG to acquire STT GDC's 65 percent stake in a planned Ho Chi Minh City data center project

Type: Acquisition · Technology: Data Center · Country: Vietnam · Capacity: 60 MW · Announced: 2026-08-21

Vietnamese telecoms firm VNG is set to acquire ST Telemedia Global Data Centres’ (STT GDC) 65 percent stake in VTH Software Development for VND480 billion ($18.3 million). VTH Software Development owns a 25,465 sqm (274,100 sq ft) land plot in Ho Chi Minh City designated for a data center project. The planned facility, known as STT VNG Ho Chi Minh City 2, was originally due to go live in H1 2026 with a capacity of 60MW. STT GDC determined that the site did not meet its investment and commercial requirements, citing the remaining land-use term as not optimal for long-term hyperscale data center operations. VNG, however, concluded the site can still serve a purpose, potentially hosting offices, employee sports-recreational facilities, and an e-sports center.
