Walmart signs long-term nuclear power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy for 176 MW
Type: Ppa · Technology: Nuclear · Country: United States · Capacity: 176 MW · Announced: 2026-06-24
Retail giant Walmart has signed a long-term nuclear power purchase agreement (PPA) with energy provider Constellation Energy for approximately 176 MW of emissions-free electricity. The agreement consists of two 15-year contracts, starting in 2029 and 2030, for power from Constellation’s Dresden Clean Energy Center in Illinois. This power will support Walmart’s new high-tech perishable distribution center under development in Belvidere, Illinois. This marks Walmart's first nuclear PPA and is among the first of its kind between a major U.S. retailer and a nuclear energy facility. The agreement will enable Constellation to increase output from its existing nuclear units, providing additional carbon-free electricity to the grid and supporting continued investment in the plant's long-term reliability.
