Washington State Broadband Office signs agreements with seven BEAD awardees to begin broadband construction

Washington State Broadband Office signed formal agreements on 2026-09-24 with seven BEAD Program awardees totaling more than $165 million in federal, state and private BEAD funding to construct broadband infrastructure for an estimated 28,452 households. The agreements cover extension of fiber and other qualifying broadband infrastructure to unserved and underserved Broadband Serviceable Locations across Eastern and Western Washington, with most locations scheduled to be connected within four years of contract execution. The seven named subgrantees are Broadlinc, Concept Communications, Declaration Networks Group, Hood Canal Communications, Kitsap PUD, Lummi Indian Business Council and Spokane Indian Tribe, and NEPA and NHPA reviews plus permitting will begin now before construction crews deploy. The contracts enable deployment of high-speed internet to households, farms, small businesses and emergency services across the state and represent the first wave of subgrantee contracts under Washington’s BEAD rollout covering projects visible on the state's BEAD Funding Map. Subgrantees have until Oct. 8, 2026 to sign their BEAD contracts to begin project work and the agreements initiate regulatory reviews required under NEPA and NHPA prior to construction.
