Wi Solar, Karl Ditandy GmbH, and Diconal partner to develop solar mounting system for gabions

Type: Partnership · Technology: Solar · Country: Germany · Announced: 2026-07-24

Wi Solar, a developer of commercial photovoltaic systems, and Karl Ditandy GmbH, a company specializing in natural stone and gabion construction, have partnered with mounting system manufacturer Diconal to develop a solution for installing solar modules on gabion structures. The collaboration resulted in a new clamping design that allows photovoltaic modules to be easily mounted on gabions of different sizes, making it a scalable system solution. The first field test involved a nine-module array installed at the former State Garden Show site in Bingen, Germany, successfully adapting the system to the irregular geometry of stone-filled wire mesh gabions. Diconal, a sister company of Alutecta GmbH & Co. KG, developed the prototype based on project requirements from Karl Ditandy, which was then tested and optimized with Wi Solar. The system is designed to accommodate dimensional variations in gabion walls and withstand high wind forces, with potential applications including solar installations on noise barriers, retaining walls, and slope stabilization structures.
