York Space Systems acquires Solestial to secure domestic space solar supply chain

Type: Acquisition · Technology: Defense · Country: United States · Value: $67M · Announced: 2026-06-04

York Space Systems, a US-based national defense and commercial prime, completed the acquisition of Solestial on June 4, 2026, for approximately $67 million through a mix of cash and stock. The transaction included York issuing 1,702,862 shares at a negotiated value of $34 per share, securing a domestic source for critical space solar capability. Solestial, a US-based space solar technology provider, specializes in thin and flexible silicon solar cells engineered for the space environment, capable of self-healing radiation damage at operating temperatures as low as 65°C. Its solar cells and flexible solar power modules are manufactured in Tempe, Arizona, with approximately 95% of its supply chain already US-based. The acquisition ensures Solestial will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary while continuing to supply external customers and integrating its technology across York’s spacecraft portfolio.
