ZE Energy acquires 200 MW battery storage project Elena in Italy

Type: Acquisition · Technology: Storage · Country: Italy · Capacity: 200 MW · Announced: 2026-09-30

French flexibility provider ZE Energy has acquired the Elena battery energy storage system (BESS) project, a 200 MW facility with over 1 GWh of capacity, from British developer Aura Power. Located in Troia, Puglia (Southern Italy), the project is permitted and ready for construction, featuring a six-hour duration and a 380 kV high-voltage grid connection. Once operational, Elena will increase ZE Energy's Italian BESS portfolio to 300 MW, following the development of its first standalone Italian project, Sessa Aurunca. The acquisition aligns with ZE Energy's strategy to expand its European storage platform and reach 1.5 GW of installed capacity by 2030.
