Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) secured a contract to construct a second Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, which will be chartered to Vattenfall for operations at the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind farms in Germany. The 90-meter vessel, named Wind of Energy, features a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system with lithium batteries, DP2 dynamic positioning, and a 3D motion-compensated crane, enabling it to operate for over 30 days without resupply. Designed in collaboration with Salt Ship Design, the SOV will accommodate up to 96 technicians and crew and is expected to commence operations by the end of 2027. The agreement follows an earlier contract signed in early 2025, where LD Armateurs secured EUR 563 million in contracts with Vattenfall for SOV services across multiple offshore wind projects. This deal expands ZPMC's role in the offshore wind sector, supporting long-term operations and maintenance activities for Vattenfall's expanding German wind portfolio.
