Zurich Airport Brasil invested R$ 24 million to develop a 5 MW solar photovoltaic plant at the Aeroporto Internacional de Natal in São Gonçalo do Amarante, Rio Grande do Norte. The project, executed by local EPC contractor WSO Solar, involves the installation of 11,000 solar modules and is expected to achieve full operational capacity by November 2026. Once operational, the plant will generate approximately 1 million kWh of electricity per month, sufficient to meet the airport's entire energy demand and make it self-sufficient. The initiative marks the second airport under Zurich Airport Brasil's management in Brazil to achieve energy self-sufficiency, following the Aeroporto de Macaé in Rio de Janeiro. The project incorporates sustainability measures, including the reuse of 11,000 cubic meters of asphalt milling material from a 2017 runway maintenance project to prepare over half of the solar farm's surface area.
