38 countries commit to tripling global nuclear energy capacity by 2050
38 countries, including China and Brazil, have committed to tripling global nuclear energy capacity by 2050 as part of efforts to achieve net-zero emissions. This initiative, originally launched at COP28 in December 2023 with 25 countries, aims to expand nuclear power to help limit global temperature increases to 1.5 degrees and decarbonize hard-to-electrify industrial sectors. Additionally, 27 countries expressed support for diversifying financing for nuclear projects, while 33 countries reaffirmed nuclear energy as a strategic resource for global electricity demand and decarbonization.
