AFRY appointed Owner’s Engineer for 36 MW solar PV and 10 MW / 40 MWh battery energy storage system project at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia
AFRY has been appointed as Owner’s Engineer for a 36 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant paired with a 10 MW / 40 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, Malaysia. The project, developed to supply renewable energy to KLIA, is expected to generate 46 GWh of electricity annually while reducing carbon emissions by 35,000 tonnes. AFRY’s role includes overseeing project execution, ensuring technical compliance, and managing construction milestones for the integrated solar-BESS facility. KLIA, Malaysia’s primary international gateway, will directly benefit from the project’s enhanced energy reliability and sustainability credentials. The initiative aligns with Malaysia’s renewable energy targets and supports the airport’s decarbonization efforts.
