Agratas advances 20 GWh Sanand battery manufacturing facility with Tata Projects and Tata Consulting Engineers
Agratas, Tata Group’s global battery business, marked a critical milestone for its Sanand battery manufacturing facility in Gujarat, India, by completing the steel frame structure in April 2026. The 20 GWh facility, set to begin production in 2027, will manufacture advanced battery cells for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, positioning India as a key player in the global battery supply chain. The project spans 105,000 square meters with a steel frame measuring 700 meters in length, 150 meters in width, and 34 meters in height, requiring over 24,000 tonnes of steel. At peak construction, more than 2,500 skilled workers were employed on-site, with Tata Projects Limited executing the construction and Tata Consulting Engineers providing engineering support. Once operational, the facility will support Tata Group’s broader push into clean energy and electric mobility, aligning with India’s 2030 battery storage and EV adoption targets.
