Aker BP and partners develop Symra oil field subsea tie-back to Ivar Aasen platform

Development Oil Gas announced Norway Apr 7, 2026

Aker BP, in partnership with Equinor (30%) and DNO Norge (20%), fast-tracked the Symra oil field development in the North Sea, bringing it online nine months ahead of schedule. The field, located 7 km northeast of the Ivar Aasen platform, was developed as a subsea tie-back with four wells connected via a subsea template, enabling partial processing at Ivar Aasen before final processing at the Edvard Grieg platform. Modifications to both platforms increased processing capacity, with TechnipFMC delivering the subsea systems and Moreld Apply and Aibel handling platform upgrades. Drilling operations were executed by Odfjell Drilling and Halliburton under Aker BP's drilling alliance. The project is estimated to contribute approximately 63 million barrels of oil equivalent to the Eiga area, marking Aker BP's sixth sanctioned project in 2022 to reach production.
