Amazon partners with Veolia to deploy water-reuse technology at data centers in Mississippi
Amazon partnered with French utility company Veolia to deploy water-reuse technology across its data centers in Mississippi, marking the first deployment of such systems in the region. Veolia will install autonomous containerized treatment systems that convert effluent from nearby wastewater treatment plants into cooling water meeting industrial standards for data centers, with the first facility expected to be operational in 2027. The project is anticipated to reuse over 83 million gallons of potable water annually, reducing Amazon's water consumption footprint in the state. As part of the collaboration, Amazon Web Services will support Veolia in developing AI-enhanced solutions for water treatment, including real-time process optimization and predictive maintenance to maximize efficiency. The partnership aligns with Veolia's Data Center Resource 360 initiative and Amazon's broader sustainability goals, including its expansion of treated wastewater use for cooling from 20 to 120 locations globally.
