Amazon to acquire Globalstar for $11.57 billion to bolster Amazon Leo satellite network
Amazon agreed to acquire satellite operator Globalstar in a $11.57 billion cash deal, valuing Globalstar shares at $90 each. The acquisition includes Globalstar's satellites, radio frequency spectrum, and operational expertise to enhance Amazon's Amazon Leo low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network. As part of the agreement, Amazon and Apple formalized a partnership where Amazon Leo will power satellite services for iPhone and Apple Watch, including Emergency SOS via satellite. Apple, which already holds a 20% stake in Globalstar acquired in November 2024 for $400 million, agreed to provide Globalstar with $1.1 billion in cash to expand iPhone satellite services. Globalstar committed to allocating 85% of its network capacity to Apple under this deal.
