AMEA Power secures financing for Abydos 1,000 MW solar PV and 600 MWh battery storage project in Egypt
AMEA Power and Abydos Solar Power Company S.A.E. secured financing for the Abydos Solar Power Project, a landmark 1,000 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant paired with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Aswan, Egypt. The project, recognized as African Deal of the Year at the Project Finance International Awards 2026, will be the largest integrated solar and battery storage facility in Africa, advancing Egypt’s energy transition. The financing structure includes senior debt, mezzanine financing, and export credit agency support, addressing global supply chain constraints and inflationary pressures. Clifford Chance’s cross-border team advised on the multi-jurisdictional transaction, which involved legal frameworks across English, Egyptian, Japanese, DMCC, Cayman Islands, Hong Kong, and PRC law. The project sets a regional benchmark for large-scale renewable energy financing and demonstrates the integration of solar generation with battery storage to enhance grid stability.
