Italy's Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (Mimit) and Ansaldo Energia signed a preliminary agreement to acquire and revitalize Sofinter's industrial site in Gioia del Colle, Puglia, which had been designated as a crisis table project in 2023. The agreement outlines a €50 million investment plan over the next three years, with Ansaldo Energia committing approximately €30 million directly, while the remaining funds will be secured through national and local support instruments. The revitalization plan includes four industrial pillars, focusing on solar panel recycling and green hydrogen production to accelerate Italy's energy transition and strengthen strategic industrial supply chains. Ansaldo Energia clarified that employment at the site will gradually increase in line with the expanded operational scope, reaching 139 workers upon completion of the reindustrialization plan. The preliminary agreement is expected to be finalized following the necessary steps for the site's transfer, with the ministry emphasizing the strategic importance of the project for Puglia's industrial recovery.
