Aquaterra Energy partners with Intrepid Energy Limited to deploy riser-based well intervention system for mature shallow water subsea wells offshore Nigeria
Aquaterra Energy partnered with Intrepid Energy Limited (IEL) to deploy a riser-based well intervention system from jack-ups or lift boats, enabling production restoration from mature shallow water subsea wells offshore Nigeria. The program provides a full seabed-to-surface riser-based well access solution without relying on floating intervention vessels, allowing repeatable intervention across multiple wells. This approach addresses technical constraints in shallow water settings, where aging infrastructure and uncertain downhole conditions have historically limited intervention activity. By integrating modern riser systems with fixed-to-bottom platforms, the partnership unlocks stranded production that would otherwise remain inaccessible. The initiative targets shallow water fields in Nigeria’s offshore basins, where an estimated 40–50% of wells are currently shut-in due to technical and economic challenges. The collaboration leverages Aquaterra Energy’s AQC-SR and CW connectors, which are designed for efficient well access and abandonment operations.
