Archangel Lightworks secures $13.57 million Series A funding led by Santander Alternative Investments to scale optical downstream technology
Laser communications company Archangel Lightworks closed an oversubscribed £10 million ($14 million) Series A funding round led by Santander Alternative Investments to scale its deployable optical terminal technology, including the TERRA-M miniature optical terminal. The funding will accelerate manufacturing capabilities in Oxfordshire, UK, where the company develops high-volume, secure, and dual-use gigabit laser-link products for defense and mission-critical industries. The round also included participation from the National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF), Blackfinch Ventures, Oxford Capital, Lycka Limited, and Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE), bringing Archangel Lightworks' total investment to $17.5 million to date. CEO Richard Johanson stated the capital will help meet growing demand for space-based information and connectivity, positioning the company to deploy its technology with new and existing partners across markets. Nadir Maruf, head of infrastructure and venture capital at Santander Alternative Investments, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative in ground space communication infrastructure.
