Bionext Infrastructure, Aberdeen’s Italian biomethane platform based in Milan, secured a €113 million ($131 million) financing package from BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, and SMBC to fund the conversion of its existing biogas plants into 15 biomethane production facilities across central and northern Italy. The financing will also support future growth initiatives as the platform scales its operations to meet Italy’s renewable energy targets. Bionext currently operates 15 plants transitioning from biogas to biomethane, with each facility underpinned by a 15-year incentive structure to ensure revenue stability. The expansion aligns with Italy’s biomethane production goals and broader European energy transition efforts, positioning Bionext as a key player in the country’s decarbonization roadmap. The deal is part of Aberdeen’s third core infrastructure fund, ASCI III, and follows the platform’s establishment in 2023. Legal advisors were not disclosed in the announcement.
