Blackstone invests in Sunotec to expand European utility-scale solar and battery storage platform
Alternative investment manager Blackstone Tactical Opportunities made a structured equity investment in Sunotec, a Bulgaria-based international system integrator specializing in utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. The investment will fund Sunotec’s expansion across core European markets including Germany, the UK, Scandinavia, and Southeast Europe, while strengthening its grid integration and renewable energy capabilities. Sunotec has installed approximately 15 GW of solar capacity globally, including 5 GW of utility-scale solar and 5 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) over the past two years alone. Kaloyan Velichkov, Sunotec’s Founder and CEO, stated that the partnership with Blackstone will accelerate the company’s growth and enable deeper penetration into existing and new markets. Amer Khatoun, Senior Managing Director of Blackstone Tactical Opportunities, highlighted Sunotec’s strong track record in delivering and operating utility-scale solar and battery storage projects, emphasizing the investment’s focus on scaling the platform and expanding grid infrastructure capabilities.
