Capital Dynamics and Solo Renewables form £100m joint venture for 150MW long-duration energy storage project in Northern Ireland
Capital Dynamics and Solo Renewables have agreed to a joint venture to deliver a £100 million long-duration energy storage project in Northern Ireland. The 150MW Islandmagee project will provide up to eight hours of storage, equivalent to 1200MWh, and is among the first large-scale LDES sites in the Irish Single Electricity Market. The project, which received planning approval in February 2026 from Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, could supply energy for up to 36,000 households per day assuming one discharge cycle. Located in Islandmagee, the project is intended to support grid stability and the integration of renewable energy as capacity increases. This collaboration represents an important step in developing the long-duration storage infrastructure needed to support Northern Ireland’s evolving energy system.
