Crusoe and Redwood Energy expand microgrid with repurposed EV batteries and solar

The expansion will add 20 Crusoe Spark modular data centers to the existing four, increasing the total power demand to 20 MW. The project is located at Redwood's battery recycling campus in Sparks, Nevada, and will utilize Crusoe's modular approach to data center development. This partnership highlights the growing trend of repurposing EV batteries for renewable energy applications, and demonstrates the potential for innovative collaborations in the energy sector. The deal is part of Crusoe's efforts to scale its data center operations, with the company also announcing a material deal for 12 GWh of energy from iron-air energy storage maker Form Energy. The expansion is expected to support the growth of Crusoe's computing power and reduce its environmental footprint.
