Drax signs tolling agreement for 250MW BESS with Fidra Energy
Drax Group has signed a 10-year tolling agreement with Fidra Energy's subsidiary, West Burton C Limited, for 250MW (500MWh) of new Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) capacity at West Burton, England. Under the agreement, Fidra will be responsible for construction, maintenance, and availability of the asset, while Drax will pay a fixed annual tolling fee in return for full operational control and dispatch rights, retaining all revenues (excluding Capacity Market revenues). This agreement aligns with Drax's FlexGen strategy, adding short duration and fast response capability to its portfolio, and complements its investments in physical ownership of BESS and asset optimization. The agreement is subject to Fidra taking a final investment decision on the project by Q3 2026 and commercial operations by H2 2029.
