EnergyPathways launched Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) for a 300 MW compressed air energy storage (CAES) facility in the East Irish Sea, part of the MESH energy development that also includes natural gas and hydrogen storage. The project will store surplus electricity from nearby offshore wind farms and the UK grid in offshore salt caverns, with a planned energy storage capacity of 55.2 GWh enabling more than seven days of discharge. FEED studies conducted with Siemens Energy confirmed the project’s economic viability, with EnergyPathways now securing GBP 15 million (around USD 17 million) in financing from a global institutional investor. Project financing discussions are underway with leading global banks, with Final Investment Decision (FID) planned for 2028 and operations expected to start by the end of 2031.
