ENGIE acquires 278MW battery storage projects in Spain from Rolwind Renewables
ENGIE acquired two large-scale battery storage projects in Spain— the 200MW Palmosilla project in Tarifa, Cádiz and the 28MW Cerrillo proposal in Álora, Málaga—from Rolwind Renewables for over €240 million. The projects, set to begin construction in 2027, represent the largest independent energy storage developments in Spain and will enhance grid stability while supporting renewable energy integration. The acquisition includes a joint €70 million grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to fund the projects. Loreto Ordóñez, CEO of ENGIE Spain, emphasized the strategic importance of storage in Spain's energy transition. Manuel Nevado, CEO of Rolwind Renovables, highlighted the projects' role in providing flexibility and system stability amid Spain's evolving electrical landscape.
