Engie acquired two large-scale battery storage projects—Palmosilla (200 MW / 800 MWh) in Tarifa, Cádiz, and Cerrillo (78 MW / 312 MWh) in Álora, Málaga—from Rolwind Renovables for over €240 million. The projects, which began development in 2022, are slated for construction in 2027 and commercial operation in 2028, with synchronous condensers included in the design. Engie secured a combined €70 million grant from the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) to support the €240 million investment. The acquisition aligns with Engie's global target of 95 GW of installed renewable energy and storage capacity by 2030, expanding its footprint in Spain's energy storage market.
