Exmar secures charter agreement and launches FSRU conversion for EemsEnergyTerminal’s Dutch LNG terminal expansion
Exmar and EemsEnergyTerminal formalized a conditional charter agreement to expand the EemsEnergyTerminal’s LNG import capacity in the Netherlands, including the extension of an existing FSRU and the conversion of a new floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). Exmar initiated engineering and conversion works for the new FSRU, securing a dual-fuel diesel electric membrane LNG carrier and ordering a regasification plant with a capacity of 750 million standard cubic feet per day. The expanded terminal will operate two FSRUs, combining to deliver 190,000 cubic meters of LNG storage and a total regasification capacity of 1,350 million standard cubic feet per day. The project targets a conditional final investment decision in the first half of 2026, aiming to enhance Europe’s energy security through improved LNG import infrastructure. Exmar highlighted its expertise in floating LNG infrastructure as a key differentiator for the partnership.
