Finland signs €547M deal with Hanwha Aerospace for 112 K9 howitzers

Finland has entered into a €547 million ($642 million) government-to-government contract with South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace to procure 112 additional K9 self-propelled howitzers. The deal, announced by Finnish authorities, will increase Finland’s total K9 inventory to over 200 systems, positioning it as the second-largest European operator after Poland. Deliveries are scheduled from 2028, with national modifications required before deployment. The K9 howitzers, capable of firing at ranges exceeding 40 km, are part of Finland’s broader strategy to enhance artillery capabilities amid regional security concerns. This procurement follows earlier orders in 2017 and 2022, reflecting deepening defense ties between Hanwha and Northern European nations, including multiple NATO members.
