Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Offshore Wind · Country: United Kingdom · Capacity: 2.9 GW · Announced: 2026-03-26
The first export cable for the 2.9 GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm has been laid and pulled into shore, marking a material milestone for the project. NKT, the export cable supplier, began manufacturing the cables three years ago and will complete them this summer, while Jan de Nul is responsible for transporting and installing a total of 680 kilometers of export cable this year. The export cable system includes two HVDC cables and a fiber optic cable, which will transmit electricity to an onshore converter station in Swardeston, Norfolk, over 50 kilometers away. This development is part of Ørsted's third gigawatt-scale project in the North Sea's Hornsea zone, with the wind farm expected to be operational in 2027.
