Fugro awarded geotechnical investigation contract for Denmark’s Third Limfjord motorway link
Fugro secured a geotechnical investigation contract from COWI, acting as consultant to the Danish Road Directorate, to support the development of Denmark’s Third Limfjord connection, a major national transport infrastructure project. The campaign involves extensive nearshore geotechnical investigations in extremely shallow waters around the island of Egholm, where water depths are below 1.5 meters, using Fugro’s newly deployed amphibious buggy—a specialized vehicle designed to operate in challenging intertidal environments. The project includes a 4-lane motorway, tunnel, low bridge, and associated land reclamation works, with planned completion by summer 2026. Fugro’s amphibious buggy enables direct access across intertidal areas without temporary access routes, minimizing environmental disruption and reducing the investigation’s footprint. The Geo-data collected will inform the design of the tunnel south of Egholm and the low bridge to the north, ensuring detailed insights into local geology and soil strength for the project’s structural integrity.
