Fugro secures geotechnical survey contract for Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm in Scotland
Fugro will commence geotechnical investigations at the Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm site in Scotland starting no earlier than 9 May 2026, using two survey vessels including RS Alegranza for downhole cone penetration tests and seismic CPT operations. The campaign, running until approximately 19 August 2026, will support the detailed design and turbine positioning for the 2 GW project, which is divided into Caledonia North and Caledonia South sub-sites with planned capacities of 900 MW to 1,100 MW each. Fugro Synergy will conduct borehole sampling, while the geotechnical works follow a prior geophysical survey campaign that began in February 2026. Ocean Winds, a 50-50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, secured development rights for the Caledonia project in the 2022 ScotWind auction and announced plans in 2023 to build out the wind farm to 2 GW. Located 22 to 38 kilometers off the Scottish coast in the Outer Moray Firth, the project represents a material expansion in Ocean Winds' offshore wind portfolio in the UK.
