FuturEnergy Ireland and Form Energy agree to develop 10MW iron-air battery storage project in northwest Ireland
FuturEnergy Ireland and Form Energy signed an agreement to deploy a 10MW iron-air battery system in northwest Ireland, marking Form Energy's first international project. The system will feature a 100-hour storage duration, enabling multi-day energy discharge to support grid reliability and renewable integration. The project is expected to come online in 2029 and will be located in a region with growing renewable generation capacity. This deployment fills a critical gap in Ireland’s power system by providing long-duration storage to manage intermittency from wind and solar resources. The agreement was signed in Somerville, Massachusetts, with participation from Irish and U.S. government officials.
