GenusPlus Group awarded EPC contract for 200 MW / 800 MWh Koolunga BESS in South Australia by Equis Development
GenusPlus Group, an Australian power infrastructure builder listed on the Australian stock market, secured an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract valued at approximately USD 78.8 million (AUD 110 million) for the 200 MW / 800 MWh Koolunga battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Australia. The project, located 6 km south-east of Koolunga and 7 km north-east of Brinkworth—180 km north of Adelaide—will connect to the state’s grid via a 1.2 km HV cable linked to the 275 kV Brinkworth Substation, with construction starting shortly for a targeted September 2027 completion. GenusPlus managing director David Riches highlighted the project as a milestone, emphasizing the company’s capability to deliver large-scale, complex battery storage systems. This marks the second collaboration between GenusPlus and Equis Development in Australia, following their prior partnership on the 600 MW / 1,600 GWh Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub in Victoria, completed in December 2025. GenusPlus also brings experience from other major Australian battery projects, including Alinta’s 250 MW / 1,000 MWh Reeves Plains BESS and the 400 MWh Merredin BESS in Western Australia.
