Grenergy has energized the fourth phase, dubbed Gabriela, of its Oasis de Atacama solar-plus-storage project in Chile. The Gabriela phase comprises 272MW of solar PV and 1.1GWh of BESS, representing one-tenth of the entire project's capacity of 2GW of solar PV and 11GWh of BESS. Ingeteam supplied the PV inverters for this phase, as well as the first three phases, and CATL will supply energy storage. CVC DIF, a subsidiary of CVC, acquired the fourth phase last September for up to US$475 million, with Grenergy providing operations and maintenance services for five years.

Deal Analysis

Grenergy's energization of the Gabriela phase of the Oasis de Atacama project marks a significant milestone in the development of large-scale solar-plus-storage infrastructure in Chile. The Gabriela phase, consisting of 272MW of solar PV and 1.1GWh of BESS, represents a substantial portion of the overall 2GW solar and 11GWh BESS project. CVC DIF's acquisition of this phase for up to $475 million underscores the growing investor confidence in renewable energy projects with integrated storage solutions. Grenergy will continue to provide operations and maintenance services for five years, ensuring the project's long-term performance. The involvement of key players like Ingeteam (PV inverters) and CATL (energy storage) further validates the project's technological soundness. CVC DIF's participation, given their track record in infrastructure investments, brings financial strength and expertise to the project. The Oasis de Atacama project, upon completion, will be one of the largest solar-plus-storage facilities globally, contributing significantly to Chile's renewable energy goals and grid stability. This project demonstrates the increasing viability of combining solar power with battery storage to provide reliable and dispatchable renewable energy.
  • 272MW solar PV and 1.1GWh BESS capacity added to the Oasis de Atacama project.
  • CVC DIF acquired the Gabriela phase for up to $475 million, demonstrating strong investor interest.
  • Grenergy will provide operations and maintenance services for five years.
  • Ingeteam and CATL are key technology suppliers for the project.
Market Context: Chile is a leading market for renewable energy development in South America, driven by favorable solar resources and government policies supporting clean energy adoption. The integration of battery storage is becoming increasingly important to address the intermittency of solar power and ensure grid reliability.
