Heerema Completes Installation of First Hornsea 3 Offshore Converter Station
Heerema Marine Contractors has completed the installation of the first jacket and offshore converter station for the Hornsea 3 offshore wind project in the North Sea, ahead of schedule. The project, being developed by Ørsted, is expected to have a capacity of 2.9 GW and supply electricity to over three million UK homes once completed. Located approximately 160 km off the Yorkshire coast, Hornsea 3 is part of a larger offshore wind zone alongside Hornsea 1 and 2, with a combined capacity exceeding 5 GW. The installation was carried out by the Sleipnir vessel, supported by a fleet of other vessels, with project teams coordinating operations across engineering, marine, and project management functions. Heerema will proceed with the installation of the second offshore converter station later this year as part of the project execution. The Hornsea 3 project is a material milestone in the development of offshore wind energy in the UK, and its completion is expected to contribute to the country's renewable energy targets.
