Hitachi Rail to acquire Clever Devices for undisclosed sum

Clever Devices, headquartered in Woodbury, New York, operates in the United States, Europe, and South America with over 600 employees and forecasts turnover exceeding $200 million in 2026. The acquisition will expand Hitachi Rail's digital solutions portfolio, integrating Clever Devices' onboard and centralized data systems with Hitachi's HMAX digital asset management platform. HMAX connects train fleets, wayside signaling, and track data to create a digital twin of railway operations, leveraging AI and edge computing to optimize performance and extend asset life. Post-acquisition, Hitachi plans to broaden its business from rail into other transport modes and strengthen its North American presence. The deal is expected to close following regulatory approval, with no financial terms disclosed in the announcement.
