i-SMR Technology Development Project Group seeks standard design approval for Innovative Small Modular Reactor

The i-SMR Technology Development Project Group is a consortium of South Korean companies, led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), focused on developing and commercializing an innovative Small Modular Reactor (i-SMR) design. The group aims for standard design approval by 2028 and commercialization by 2030, with significant government backing.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (represented here by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission) is a federal regulatory agency responsible for regulating the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect health, safety, security, and the environment. It licenses and oversees all nuclear facilities and activities, including power plants and waste management, within its jurisdiction.
